Abernathy, Roeder, Boyd, and Hullett attorneys were on the forefront of the ADR movement in the early 1990s. Our lawyers serve either as neutral mediator or advocate for one side or the other. Much of our alternative dispute resolution work involves representing those contesting ad valorem tax appraisals that excessively tax residential or business property. We have a high rate of success in difficult cases.

“Ad valorem” is a Latin legal phrase for taxation “according to the value.” You have the right to dispute your appraisal district’s high valuation of your property. Some of our attorneys are certified mediators, and attorney Larry R. Boyd has a masters degree in ADR. Aside from mediation, we handle other forms of alternative dispute resolution such as arbitration. In arbitration, a panel of arbitrators act as a judge, deciding matters in an out-of-court setting. Compared with the traditional litigation process, these forums are simpler, quicker and more effective for all parties.
